As a kitchen magician, I can say that sugar trick is old. Flavor is king.
Sugar is not flavor. There. I said it. 😂 I've eaten desserts so sweet that I couldn't tell what flavor they were actually supposed to be. At that point, you're not tasting great cake. You're tasting sugar with a cake delivery system. 😭 When I bake, I'm looking for balance and composition. Take this cake. I used both raw and toasted coconut because they don't taste the same. Toasting changes the flavor and adds another dimension. Then I paired those elements with the deepest chocolate flavor I could create. Sweetness was there, of course. But sweetness wasn't supposed to be the star. I wanted you to be able to identify the flavors—not just detect that the dessert was sweet. And yes, I use salt in desserts. Intentionally. Used properly, salt doesn't make dessert taste salty—it helps highlight and distinguish the other flavors. Over the years, I've measured, adjusted and played with ingredient ratios until I understood not only what I liked, but why it worked. I've even taken what I learned from one carrot cake recipe and used those principles to create several completely different desserts. Because apparently I cannot simply make a cake. I have to understand the cake. 😂 But that's how I approach almost everything. More money doesn't automatically create better design. More expensive doesn't guarantee a better vacation. More renovation doesn't automatically create more home value. And more sugar certainly doesn't create a better cake. Sometimes excellence is knowing what to add. Sometimes it's knowing what to leave out. And sometimes it's understanding how all the individual elements work together to create something better than any one of them could be alone. That's design. Even when the medium is cake. 🎂 I don't necessarily want more. I want better. Somebody was using that name, so I had to pivot. This fits.
Turns out there's a food business on these social media streets with the name I was using. 🤷🏾♀️ That's OK. This one fits better. #FromHoneyWithLove #TheSignatureLifestyle #ftmotdf
