Sumner County Restaurant Favorites (mainly non-chain)

Purple Star emoji 16 items
I love to try new food and go on mini adventures. Discovering hidden gems in Sumner, and surrounding counties, is my idea of a fun day. Even more fun, finding the non-chain or small local chains. Supporting small businesses is my goal.

If you’re looking for real Chicago dogs and pizza, Campione’s has you covered. The Chicago dog is a taste of home.

One of our favorite local pizza places. Great selection and the environment is fun grunge.

The perfect brunch spot. My go to is usually the quiche or the trio. The frozen salad is my absolute favorite and each plate is garnished with a luscious chocolate covered strawberry. Who needs dessert? They also have a fun little gift shop.

Just discovered this local gem. If you’re in the mood for classic southern home cooking, they have something for you. And yes, mac and cheese is a vegetable.

It’s a little “hole in the wall” restaurant that’s easy to miss but step inside and the food is worth it.

This gem is tucked away in a strip mall and serves delicious gnocchi, fresh fired pizza, and according to one who knows, the best meatball sandwich.

This was not what I expected when I walked through the door but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety on the menu. Many of the dishes are passed down through the family and it’s fun seeing those traditions come alive.

My local go to for true tavern style pizza and the Thursday night pizza special is even better. Crispy thin crust, melty cheese, and choice of toppings can’t be beat. The tater nacho’s and Mac-n-cheese balls are other favorites.

Another hidden gem, right on the lake. Portions are huge, menu is varied, and service is consistent. Great for families.

Your “classic” diner open for breakfast and lunch. Portions are large, menu offers a big variety, and the cakes can’t be missed. The gyro’s are quite good and the waffles are delicious.

This family owned restaurant has weathered the storms and remains a staple in the community. From cheese fries to lamb burgers, stuffed burgers to sandwiches a wonderful non-chain burger spot tucked away from Main Street.

Come for a meal, stay for dessert. The penne pesto burrata is one of my favorites, I’m a pesto fan and the combination of Brazilian, French, and Italian offerings is a fun way to try new food without going far from home.

Technically not Sumner county but close enough. This restaurant serves Filipino classics and is reasonably priced. The owner is very friendly and the food excellent.

Blink and you’ll miss it. Take a drive down US31W to find this hidden gem. Catfish served on Friday night only and it’s worth the trip.

Met a friend for lunch and a long overdue conversation. Service was friendly and the food was exceptional. Even while we sat and chatted for hours, no one made us feel unwelcome. Across from city hall, it’s easy to miss but it’s worth finding.

I know, not Sumner county but it’s a food truck and they come to Hendersonville so… some of the best pierogi I’ve had in years, like my grandma made. The sausage, the cutlets, the sauerkraut all bring back childhood memories.
