Slip dresses, silk dresses and satin skirts already have shine, movement and a very particular softness. The wrong bag can look too practical beside them, while the right texture makes the whole outfit look polished. As a stylist, I would reach for beaded clutches, pearl and crystal evening bags, metallic finishes, satin bags, sculptural minaudières and a few small polished leather styles. Costume jewellery, worn with total conviction. Statement necklaces, pearl chokers, chunky gold, cocktail earrings, enamel cuffs, brooches and layered chains, modern pieces from good houses, none of it precious, all of it chosen properly. Chanel settled this argument a century ago when she wore her faux pearls beside the real ones and refused to say which was which. What a piece costs has never been the same as what it's worth.

From immaculate high-street finds to iconic designer collections, this curation celebrates the pointed pump, classic slingbacks, and the slender heel kept for a good evening. I care most about the line of a shoe, the quality of the leather, and the beauty of a striking silhouette. I think having a few good and reliable bags solve many style issues. I know many people believe in capsule wardrobes and that one bag can solve many issues. It happens rarely. I'd rather have few good ones, than one that is made to overserve.
