Navigating Movement with Hypermobility
Following my recent diagnosis of hypermobility, I’ve had to completely rethink how I navigate chronic pain and exercise. Because my joints naturally have a larger range of motion than usual, they require extra support to stay stable and pain-free. To manage this, I stick to lower-impact workouts like Pilates, targeted strength training, and walking.
Why Low-Impact Strength Training Works:
* Joint Protection: Lower-impact exercises put significantly less stress on vulnerable joints and muscles.
* Stability Over Flexibility: Instead of overstraining or hyperextending, consistent strength training builds the muscle endurance needed to keep joints safely aligned.
* Functional Balance: These controlled movements improve overall balance and body awareness, which directly translates to less pain during daily activities.
To help me build strength safely without overextending my joints, here are a few of my go-to equipment options:

Because hypermobility affects everyone differently, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional or a specialized physical therapist before starting a new routine.
