Surabaya is Indonesia’s second largest city and the second most important commercial and industrial center after Jakarta. It is home to three million people, a large port and Indonesia’s navy. The old city is situated around Jembatan Merah (Red Bridge) and Kota train station. The city center and major top-end hotel area is around J. Pemuda. The airport is 15 kilometers outside of town. There are good train connection to Jakarta, Yogyakarta and a ferry to Bali. Most travelers don’t stay here any longer than they have to: often until they can the next plane or train out.

Our Amsterdam trip was October 3-5 2024. We flew from Keflavik to Amsterdam using Icelandair's stopover program. We arrived in the afternoon and took a train to Centraal Station from Schipol Airport. The train station is in the middle of the city and we were able to walk to our hotel. Amsterdam's public transportation is amazing so we used the tram to get around or walked. You can also rent a bike if you'd like! We bought the IAMsterdam card prior and booked a lot of experiences using this. This is another ambitious itinerary and we were exhausted but, again, so worth it!

It’s so easy to overpack and bring so many things that won’t be used on a trip. I prefer to keep the bare minimum and be agile so you can be flexible as you travel. Of course this style isn’t for everyone and if you’re certain to be staying put in one location a few extra checked bags won’t hurt (unless the airline loses it). So I typically avoid checking bags if possible.

If your starting point is Montego Bay (my home-base and ‘MoBay’ to locals), facing the sea, you can go right to Ocho Rios in 2 hours and go left to Negril in the same amount of time. There is a wide variety of things to do and see for every variation of interest in either direction. If you love horses, golf, and quaint small Southern towns, you’ll love Aiken, SC! Aiken has spring and fall Steeplechase, polo, fox hunting, dressage, jumping, and thoroughbred racing. We have unique shops and plenty to do do outdoors from Hitchcock Woods, Hopelands Gardens to kayaking on Savannah River. We have both private and public golf courses you can play year round. We also have the Greenjackets baseball right across the River. These are some of my favorite top Aiken recommendations to visit!

Visiting Seoul during winter is truly beautiful, especially when it snows, as seen in many K-dramas. If you’re planning a trip to South Korea in this season, here are some recommendations. Keep in mind that although Christmas in Korea is more of a commercial celebration focused on couples rather than families, the city is still filled with festive decorations and lights everywhere. The weather can get extremely cold, so make sure to dress warmly. I recommend wearing layers because it gets very warm inside buildings. During my winter trip, I wore multiple layers and even used hot packs because my hands and face felt painfully cold at times. Plan your outfits with both outdoor and indoor temperatures in mind.
